Viveka Vadyvaloo

Dr. Vadyvaloo conducts original research in the transmission and persistence of the etiological agent of the bubonic plague, Yersinia pestis.

Her primary research is in understanding:

  • Genetic basis of bacterial pathogen transmission and persistence using molecular approaches.
  • Persistence and re-emergence of the plague using both fleas and protozoa as host models.

Dr. Vadyvaloo’s long-term goal is to identify novel transmission and persistence factors as targets for disease prevention.

Dr. Vadyvaloo is an assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine and in the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health.
